friday movie quote

Inglourious Basterds

“Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz?… Lt. Aldo Raine. These are the Basterds. Ever heard of us?… We just wanted to say we’re a big fan of your work. When it comes to killing Nazis, I think you show great talent. And I pride myself on having an eye for that kind of talent. But your status as a Nazi killer is still amateur. We all come here to see if you wanna go pro.”

-Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), Inglourious Basterds (2009)

patterns of farce

I was watching MeTV’s Super Sci Fi Saturday Night last weekend, when I got to see one of my favorite Star Trek episodes, “Patterns of Force.” Sure, it’s heavy handed in its messaging and filled with plot holes, but I still like it for some reason.

Anyway, as I awaited the start of the episode, it occurred to me that it had some similarities to a certain Quentin Tarantino movie. So I re-imagined the show a bit — hey, Hollywood does it all the time, right? — and I came up with this movie poster.

Inglourious Trekkers

I guess this is how you spend Saturday nights when you don’t have a social life.

r.i.p., rod taylor

It came to my attention over the weekend that actor Rod Taylor died last week. Taylor is best known for his role’s in George Pal’s The Time Machine and Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Here’s the trailer for The Time Machine, a movie I need to watch again.

More recently, Taylor made a cameo appearance as Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Here’s his scene from that movie.
