friday movie quote

ForbiddenPlanet

“Another one of them new worlds. No beer, no women, no pool parlors, nothin’. Nothin’ to do but throw rocks at tin cans, and we gotta bring our own tin cans.”

  1. John D.:
One of my PERSONAL favorite sci-fi movies of ALL time.
(even have a 50th Anniversary commemorative DVD metal box set with mini-“Robby” and some cool artwork.
I also have one of the ORIGINAL “lobby cards” from the theaters- has to be worth something by NOW
(got that at a ST con in NYC WAY back in the late 70s).

Just watched it (again) on TCM last weekend.
(and you can thank Disney artists for some of those SFX, too)
The movie has LOTS of great lines.
    Excellent choice!

Have a great weekend & roll safe out there.

    • This one definitely holds up. I read somewhere that it was Gene Roddenberry’s inspiration for Star Trek. Some others from the 50s that hold up well (in my opinion):

      War of the Worlds
      The Thing from Another World
The Day the Earth Stood Still
      It Came from Outer Space

Am I missing any? There’s gotta be a couple more.

      • Good choices. I should’ve thought of When Worlds Collide, It starred Barbara Rush, who was also in It Came from Outer Space. A remake would be cool. If Hollywood doesn’t screw it up. Maybe if we could keep Michael Bay out of it, it might work out okay.

  2. While the movie does hold up as Mike Street Station says, it is a little strange to see Leslie Nielsen in a dramatic role. I keep waiting for him to say “Don’t call me Shirley”.
