Okay…never saw this movie, and I always did like Neville Brand as an actor.
You’ve given me a reason to check this flick out. Sounds like a decent one.
Wonder if it’s based on any REAL events?

    Good quote, too.

Have a great weekend and stay safe out there.

    • The producer, Walter Wanger, had recently been released from a short stint in prison. He was doing time for felony assault after shooting a Hollywood agent he thought was having an affair with his wife. Actor Leo Gordon, who played one of the convicts, had done five years in San Quentin for armed robbery. Also, inmates and guards (some the movie was filmed at Folsom prison) acted as extras. So I guess there was a lot of expertise on the set to lend authenticity to the portrayal of prison life.

  2. There is a climatic scene where a phone is ringing in the foreground while the convicts are in the background rushing toward it as the clock ticks down. A great example of how to build suspense without lots of explosions or CGI effects of today’s movies.

    • This movie was directed by Don Siegel, who directed some of the great action movies of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. He worked with such talents as Steve McQueen, John Wayne, Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood (he directed 5 Eastwood films, including Dirty Harry). Eastwood has credited Siegel with teaching him much of what he knows about directing.
