friday movie quote

“Mr. Bond, you persist in defying my efforts to provide an amusing death for you.”

-Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale), Moonraker (1979)

I know, Moonraker is, hands down, the most over-the-top of the Roger Moore-era Bond movies. But this line just perfectly sums up the shared frustration of all Bond villains.

  1. John D.:

I’ve always found there are a couple things that takes a screen villain from so-so to great:
    1 – presence
    2 – dialogue
    3 – attitude
Mix those three together well, and you’ve got one BAD GUY!
Lonsdale’s Drax even does justice to the Fleming novel (even if the movie didn’t)…can’t picture anyone else in the role.

    Good choice.

Stay safe out there this weekend.

    • I freely admit that I enjoyed this movie. It may have been a low point in the Bond franchise, but it was still a lot of fun. It came out right in the Middle of Star Wars mania, so I’m sure that explains a lot. But maligned though it may be, the theater where I saw it was packed, and the audience seemed to be having a great time.
