friday movie quote – independence day edition

“A toast? Yeah. To high treason. That’s what these men were committing when they signed the Declaration. Had we lost the war, they would have been hanged, beheaded, drawn and quartered, and — oh, oh, my personal favorite — and had their entrails cut out and burned. So… Here’s to the men who did what was considered wrong, in order to do what they knew was right…what they knew was right.”

-Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicholas Cage), National Treasure (2004)

  1. Jphn D.:
While I’m not a huge fan of Nick Cage, he has had his share of good movies, and (imho) THIS is one of them…love the premise as well as all the history involved.

Kinda like “Tomb Raider meets 1776”.
And all those scenes in Philly brought back some nice memories for me as well.

Thanks for choosing this one today.

Have a great 4th AND a super weekend.

    Roll safe out there.

  2. Yeah, this was a fun flick. Great quote, too. If I remember correctly, the penalty for high treason that the British came up with included emasculation before the fun really got going (disembowelled, beheaded and quartered). And with that, I hope you had a great 4th, John.
