Regular readers (all three of you), may have noticed I’ve been off my blogging game this week. If you showed up looking for the Babe of the Week and Wicked Weasel Wednesday posts, I apologize for having missed them. I’ll try to make up for them this weekend.
The reason I got behind was I ran into a bit of a medical issue earlier in the week. For a few weeks now, I’ve been experiencing an increase in floaters in my left eye. I had also experienced an unexplained flashing when I blinked. I hadn’t had a proper eye exam in a few years, so I made an appointment for one last Tuesday. During the eye exam, the opthamologist found a large floater in my left eye and saw what appeared to be a small piece of retina attached to it. She diagnosed a possible retinal tear and suggested I see a retinal specialist immediately. I was set up for an appointment later that day.
I was just recovering from my previous dilation when I arrived at the retinal specialist. Naturally, he started the process all over again, so I spent almost all of Tuesday with pupils the size of pie plates. After a very thorough examination, he found the site of the tear and said it would be best to treat it with a laser in order to avoid risking a retinal detachment. Being a fan of binocular vision, I agreed.
The procedure was — how can I say this? — really painful. Not the laser, so much, but the pressure he put on my eyeball to get it into the position it had to be in for treatment. I felt like the damn thing was going to burst. Thankfully, it didn’t. And the good news is that I get to keep the vision in my left eye.
I go back for a followup on Monday. I’m hoping everything is A-OK, or I’ll have to go another round with the frickin’ lazer beam.
